Starch Europe Expressed Disappointment on Duties for Exports of Wheat Gluten to Canada

Starch Europe has expressed that it does not agree on the decision from the authorities of Canada for imposing the duties on the exports of the wheat gluten from some of the European Union countries.

In December 2020, the authorities if Canada had announced the decision for imposing the new export duties on wheat gluten from the member nations of the European Union including Belgium, Austria, Lithuania and Germany.

The authorities of Canada have also outlined the new duties that are ranging between 10 percent to 26.2 percent, and this decision from the authorities have been confirming the findings of the CITT (Canadian International Tribunal), that has been responsible in upholding the Border Service Agency of Canada, which has found that, dumping the wheat gluten have been originated from the European countries have caused damage to the domestic industry of the country.

According to Starch Europe, the decision had been taken in spite of the oppositions that have provided by itself and several other companies and institutions of the European Union, and Starch Europe has also contended an investigation, relying in the misleading assessment of the structure of the starch industry of European Union, and particularly, the duties had been applied despite of the absence of the proof for any damage suffered by the companies in Canada.

Starch Europe said, Starch Europe along with its members nations have been regretting a one-sided preliminary decision, that was taken in December 2020, just four months after the launch of the conducted investigations in August 2020, in spite of the active contribution from the European Industry.
