USA’s California Plans to Increase its Solar and Wind Energy Capacity

Power & Energy

On Tuesday, 24th August 2021, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) of US said, the CAISO (California Independent System Operator) region is currently planning to increase the capacity of California for the wind and solar energy in 2021 for the purpose of providing help in meeting the target of the state of 50 percent generation of renewable energy by 2025.

The EIA of US said, CAISO has been also planning to add more 1.6 gigawatts of the utility scale solar energy capacity and an additional 0.4 gigawatts capacity of the onshore wind energy turbine in 2021, and the EIA also said that, it has also been planning the addition of 2.5 gigawatts of the battery storage capacity in 2021, and these batteries can also be charged by using the renewable energy.

The state is also developing two more projects for the purpose of facilitating the production of hydrogen along with the energy storage based on hydrogen, that can also possibly help in decreasing the curtailments of the excess output of the solar energy.

The excess supply of energy from the renewable sources has been responsible in prompting the grid for increasingly curtailing the production of the wind energy and solar energy at times, even if it is struggling to maintain the balance of the clean energy push along with the need of the state for boosting the tight supplies of energy along with avoiding the launch of blackouts amid the increasing number of the heatwaves.
