United Kingdom’s energy supplier ‘EDF Energy’, a subsidiary of the company ‘EDF’ based in France said, it is going to raise the standard variable tariffs of the company by 12 percent starting from 1st October 2021 for the continuously increasing wholesale costs of energy.
The increase in the energy costs mainly comes on the heels of the decision of Ofgem, energy regulator of United Kingdom for the purpose of increasing the capital on the widely used tariffs by around 12 percent to 13 percent due to the continuously rising prices of gas across the globe.
Philippe Commaret, head of retail business at EDF UK said, as it has been explained by Ofgem, it is the global prices of gas that had been responsible in causing the unprecedented increase in the wholesale costs of the energy and as a long-term and sustainable business, they should be reflecting the costs they are facing now.
Philippe Commaret also said, they have been knowing that, the increase in the price of energy is never welcome, particularly in these tough times, and the company will be cutting the prices of energy as soon as it will be able to do so.
The prices of energy or gas has been increased globally in the year 2021, which has been owing to the factors that mainly includes the outages at the gas fields and gas plants and the low stock levels, that have been responsible in stopping the domestic as well as Russian and Norwegian supply of energy as a purchase spree in the continent of Asia has been responsible in leading it to fewer international deliveries of the LNG gas.
