Palm Print Recognition of Amazon Raised Concern Among US Senators

Three senators of the United States, which is also including Amy Klobuchar, a democrat and chairperson of the antitrust panel of the Senate Judiciary Committee, have written a letter to the company ‘Amazon’ for expressing the concern about the promotion and expansion of a palm print recognition system.

The company ‘Amazon’ have also started rolling out the biometric technology at Amazon’s Whole Foods stores across the region of Seattle in the month of April 2021, which has been letting the customers for paying for the items with the help scanning their palms, and the system, which is called as ‘Amazon One’ has been letting the customers associate a credit card with palm print of the people.

In the letter, Amy Klobuchar has also expressed the concern in the letter regarding both the issues related to the privacy and competitiveness, which are related to the program known as the Amazon One.

In the letter, the lawmakers of the United States said, their concerns about the privacy of the users have been heightened by the evidence, which the company ‘Amazon’ have shared the voice data along with the third-part contractors and the allegations, which the company ‘Amazon’ has violated the privacy laws of the biometric system.

The lawmakers also said, they are also concerned that, Amazon might also be using the data from the Amazon One, which has also been including the data from the customers of the third-party sellers, which might be purchasing and using the devices of Amazon One, for further bridging the company’s suppressing power and competitive power across the different markets.
