UK: Pladis to Proceed with Closure of McVitie’s Biscuit Factory in Glasgow

In spite of the aggressive intervention and opposition by the government and also form the tabling of a compelling proposal for saving the 472 jobs being at stake, the company ‘Pladis’ has been proceeding with the shut down of the company’s historic biscuit factory in the region of Tollcross, that has been firstly communicated to the employees on 11^th May 2021.

According to the producer of Mcvitie, the company has been given the proposal by the Pladis Action Group formed by the government of Scotland for the purpose of building a new and cost-efficient careful review on a nearby site, but has found that, it is not able to present to a viable alternative to the original proposal for the purpose of addressing the excess capacity across the sites based in the countries like Ireland and United Kingdom.

David Murray, managing director of Pladis for United Kingdom and Ireland said, they know that, the news is going to be very difficult for their colleagues in the region of Tollcross, so it has been with a regret that they are announcing their intention to proceed with the proposal for shutting the site, and their main priority is to provide the employees of the company with all the on-going support they will be needing as they are going to proceed with the consultation.

Paul Sweeney MSP of the Labour Party said, this news is going to come as a body blow for the people working at the site of McVitie, and in spite of a working counter proposal that is being submitted, the company has significantly failed to be engaged constructively and also in good faith.
