Renewable Sources Surpasses Coal in Generating Electricity in US

On 28^th July 2021, the US Energy Information Administration announced that, the generation of the renewable energy have become the second most-used source of electricity in the United States after surpassing the electricity produced by the coal and nuclear energy in 2020.

The sources of the renewable energy including the solar energy, hydroelectric energy, biomass energy, wind energy and geothermal energy, have been successful in generating a record of 834 billion kWh of electricity in the United States, which is around 21 percent of all the electricity, that has been produced in the country.

According to the EIA, the renewables have surpassed both the coal and nuclear sources of energy for the first time on record, and EIA also said, this outcome in the year 2020 had been due mostly the less of use of coal significantly in the electricity production of the United States along with the steadily increasing use of the solar energy and wind energy, and the natural produced around 1,617 billion kWh of electricity in 2020 across the country.

The EIA also said, they are now expecting the production of electricity from coal is going to increase in the United States during the period of 2021, as the prices of the natural gas in the country is continuously increasing and also coal is becoming more competitive economically and it has forecasted that, the electricity produced by coal in all sectors of the United States in 2021 is going to increase by 18 percent year on year.
